Preliminary Report on the Conservation of Slides with Special Reference to the Removal of Mold

Caldararo, N., & Griggs, C. (2001). Preliminary Report on the Conservation of Slides with Special Reference to the Removal of Mold. Topics in Photographic Preservation, 9, 97–102.

Caldararo and Griggs' report focuses on mold removal from 35 mm slides. However, this report is specifically about the removal of mold from slide photographs, the terminology and way it is presented is very scientific which might cause some to look up terminology that the authors do not define.

Conserve-o-grams from National Park Service

These flyers or pamphlets from the National Parks Service cover a wide range of conservation and preservation topics. A few that are helpful when it comes to 35 mm slides are:

14/6 Caring for Color Photographs
14/7 Caring for Photographs: Special Monochrome Processes
14/8 Caring for Cellulose Nitrate Film
14/9 Identification of Film-Base Photographic Materials

Care, Handling, and Storage of Photographs from the Library of Congress

The Permanence and Care
of Color Photographs: Traditional and Digital Color Prints, Color Negatives, Slides, and Motion Pictures

Wilhelm, H., & Brower, C. (1993). The Permanence and Care of Color Photographs: Traditional and Digital Color Prints, Color Negatives, Slides, and Motion Pictures. Preservation Publishing.

Wilhelm and Brower's book focuses on the care of color photographs. This includes a chapter dedicated to 35 mm slides specially. Their book is one of the most comprehensive books today on this topic even though it is originally published in 1993. This book is available via pdf for free online from the authors at:

Photographs of the past process and preservation

Lavédrine, B. (2009). Photographs of the past process and preservation. Getty Publications.

Another great resource on preservation of photographs. There is a whole section on the basic preservation of 35 mm slides along with a brief history and explanation on how the slides are processed.
